Purchases and Billing
All purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. OWN PLACE LLC does not receive or store your payment card details or Apple Account credentials.
For charges, receipts, refunds, or purchase history, contact Apple Support (https://support.apple.com/billing) or visit https://reportaproblem.apple.com. Refunds are granted or denied by Apple under its own policies. Prices are always the localized prices Apple shows you immediately before purchase; any price mentioned on this site is illustrative and may be outdated.
The player (one-time purchase)
The App includes a 3-day free evaluation period (evaluation periods started under an earlier version keep their original length). You will not be charged automatically when it ends. To continue using full player functionality, complete a one-time purchase through Apple at the price shown in your App Store storefront. This is not a subscription; there are no recurring charges for the player. The player purchase is separate from AI Studio and is never taken away because of anything that happens with AI Studio.
AI Studio (subscription) — available in selected countries and regions
AI Studio — fictional books written and narrated by our service, or your own text books narrated in our voice — requires a separate monthly auto-renewable subscription that includes 10 hours of finished audio per month. Unused monthly hours do not carry over.
AI Studio is offered only to people physically located in a Supported Territory. The App is not distributed on the App Store storefronts of the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, and AI Studio is not offered to persons located there. AI Studio is also unavailable in some other countries. The list is here: Supported Territories. If the App Store returns no AI Studio products for your storefront, the App shows "AI Studio is not offered in your App Store country or region" instead of a purchase screen. If the App Store does not answer within a short timeout, the App shows "Unable to load AI Studio purchases. Check your connection and try again." with a "Try again" button. Our service also refuses requests from the Crimea region and the so-called Donetsk People's Republic and Luhansk People's Republic regions of Ukraine, as defined by OFAC, and any other region later designated as a Covered Region, independently of the country check.
AI Studio requires physical presence in a Supported Territory. Purchases also require availability in the current App Store storefront. These checks apply to new subscriptions, top-ups, and Service requests. An existing subscription may continue to renew through Apple while you are outside a Supported Territory unless you cancel it; unused monthly hours still expire. A subscriber travelling to an unsupported territory cannot place new orders there, but the player, books already downloaded, and any unused extra hours are kept. If we remove the territory in which a subscriber purchased and ordinarily uses AI Studio, we will provide cancellation instructions and assist with an Apple refund request for any materially unusable paid period.
- How hours are charged. Before an order starts, the App shows your remaining hours. You are charged the lesser of the audio actually delivered and the length you selected — never more than you ordered. Failed, cancelled, duplicate, or unusable output is not charged, and reserved hours come back to your balance automatically. If an order fails or is cancelled after the monthly period from which its hours were charged has ended, the restored hours are credited to your non-expiring extra-hours balance. If a delivered file cannot be played or is materially not what was ordered, write to contact@ownplace.net with the book identifier from the book menu and we will restore the hours after checking.
- Out of hours? Wait for your renewal date (shown in the App), or buy an extra 5 hours (one-time consumable purchase; requires an active subscription). Extra hours are used after the monthly hours and do not expire at renewal.
- Extra hours — what to expect when you buy. Apple may charge your Apple Account as soon as it approves the purchase. The App credits the five hours only after our server has verified the signed Apple transaction. If the server cannot be reached at that moment, the App keeps the transaction pending and retries automatically the next time you open it; the same transaction is never credited twice. If the hours are not credited within 24 hours, contact contact@ownplace.net — we will restore the credit or help you request a refund from Apple.
- Extra hours if the subscription lapses. They become unavailable while the subscription is inactive but stay recorded, and come back when the same subscription is reactivated. They do not disappear just because the subscription lapsed or renewed.
- Cancel: iOS Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions → Talefall. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid period. Books already on your phone keep working.
- Refunded subscription: if Apple refunds or revokes a subscription, the service stops accepting new orders under it immediately.
Restore Purchases
If you purchased the player or the subscription and it is not recognized (for example, after reinstalling the App or switching to a new iPhone):
- Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple Account used for the original purchase.
- Open the App → Settings → tap Restore Purchases (for AI Studio, the same button is on the subscription screen).
- Wait for confirmation from Apple.
If a completed purchase is still not recognized after using Restore Purchases, contact us at contact@ownplace.net — that is a technical issue with the App, and we will help.
AI Studio: How It Works
- Before you first use AI Studio the App presents the Terms screen: acceptance of the Terms of Use, with the 18+ confirmation and the rule that writing mode is for fiction only and server narration is for your own text without personal or health data about a real person. Before your first writing-mode order (and again if the provider changes) the App separately asks permission to send content from your writing-mode orders to OpenRouter and Meta in the United States. OpenRouter and Meta process writing-mode content to generate the requested text. Requests are sent using a setting that restricts routing to providers that state they do not use content for training or routine retention. This is not a zero-retention guarantee; limited retention may occur for abuse prevention, security, billing, or legal compliance. The screen provides "Allow and Continue" and "Don't Allow" actions. Choosing "Don't Allow" sends no content to OpenRouter or Meta and leaves writing mode disabled; the player and server-based narration remain available. Server narration does not need that permission because the text is not sent to them; instead, before every narration order the App shows: "Upload this text to OWN PLACE LLC's service hosted by Modal in the United States for server-based narration. It will not be sent to OpenRouter or Meta." No order content is sent to our service until you have completed the screens that apply to that mode.
- Describe the book you want and choose its length (15 minutes to 10 hours). The App shows your remaining hours before you confirm. Before every order you confirm that it contains no information about an identifiable real person (including you) and no health, biometric, genetic, precise-location, financial-account, or other sensitive personal data — "Confirm and Continue." If you say it does, the App refuses the order and nothing is sent; for narration, use the free on-device voice instead.
- The order goes to our service. You can close the App; writing takes minutes, narration can take longer for long books.
- The App shows the stages ("In queue", "Writing", "Narrating") and downloads the book automatically. Text is often available before audio.
Narrate my own text book. You can also send a text book you imported (EPUB, FB2, PDF, TXT) to be narrated in our voice; it uses hours the same way. The narrator model is operated by OWN PLACE LLC in a private container hosted by Modal. The text is processed by Modal as our infrastructure provider but is not sent to OpenRouter, Meta, or another model provider. Server narration may process only text that you are legally entitled to submit and that does not contain personal or consumer health data about an identifiable real person, including you — for such text use the on-device voice. Reading aloud with the on-device Apple voice remains free and does not use hours.
Report content. If a generated book contains something unsafe or unlawful, open the book menu and tap Report content. Report content submits the report directly through the App. If submission fails, the App offers email as a fallback method. A content report may include the excerpt or chapter you choose to submit for review; reported content is retained separately under the report-retention period. We review and respond to all content reports in a timely manner. Reports involving child exploitation, credible threats, or imminent harm receive immediate priority. If an investigation requires additional time, we inform the reporter through the available reporting channel. Anyone, including people who are not users, can also email contact@ownplace.net ("Talefall: content report"). The rules and what we do about violations are in the AI Safety and Content Policy.
Deleting or cancelling a book. Deleting an AI Studio book in the App offers to delete the copy on this device and the copy in your private iCloud storage. If you request deletion while an order is queued, being written, or being narrated, we stop further processing as soon as technically possible, delete our working content, and restore the affected hours under Terms Section 4.2.
No post-delivery server retention. Your order text, the generated chapters, the title, and the audio are held on our service (Modal) as temporary working storage only while the order is being produced and delivered: the content is encrypted, subject to an application-level time-to-live, and excluded from OWN PLACE LLC's application logs and crash reports. We do not create separate content backups. Processor backup copies, if any, are handled as described in the Privacy Policy. Delivery is confirmed only after the App has durably saved every chapter on the device — a successful network download is not, by itself, delivery. Immediately after confirmed delivery of the final chapter, OWN PLACE LLC deletes its server copy (text and audio). OWN PLACE LLC cannot recover or re-deliver the book from its server after deletion; the App may still restore your own saved iCloud copy.
If full delivery is not confirmed within seven days after the Service accepts the order, we treat the order as failed, stop further processing, delete all server-side order content, and automatically restore all hours reserved or charged for that order. Chapters already saved on your device remain available.
We do not retain order content after confirmed delivery, except content you separately submit in a report or support request and content that law requires us to preserve.
Your copy of the book. After delivery, Talefall saves the book on this device and, if iCloud is available and the save succeeds, in your private iCloud storage. OWN PLACE LLC deletes its server copy after the final chapter has been saved on this device and cannot restore it. If iCloud is unavailable or full, export your own backup before deleting the App. The App stores the copy through Apple's iCloud service under your Apple account. OWN PLACE LLC does not access or control that copy, and access to it does not depend on an active subscription — it is not "cloud storage" provided as a subscription benefit. You can also make your own copy at any time with Export to Files.
Request data deletion. To have the records associated with your subscription deleted sooner: to request access, correction, or deletion, email contact@ownplace.net and include your subscription's original transaction identifier, if available. We use it to locate records and verify your authority proportionately before disclosing or deleting data. The identifier alone is not proof of authority. Settings → Privacy → Request Data Deletion in the App prepares that email for you with the identifier filled in; the App does not send a deletion request to our service by itself. We delete records eligible for deletion, subject to the limited exceptions described in the Privacy Policy. Deleting does not forfeit purchased extra hours: we keep only the minimum entitlement record needed to preserve that balance. If you ask us to delete every record including that one, we will first offer a refund path or obtain your separate confirmation of deletion and forfeiture. If you request deletion while an order is queued, being written, or being narrated, we stop further processing as soon as technically possible, delete our working content, and restore the affected hours under Terms Section 4.2. After confirmed delivery we no longer hold identifiers that would let us locate any residual processor copy of your order. Requests are sent with a routing setting that excludes providers that retain or train on content; any limited retention by OpenRouter or the model provider for abuse prevention, security, billing, or legal compliance ends under their own retention periods. If you request deletion while an order is active, we cancel the order and notify OpenRouter with the identifiers we still hold. If the order has already been delivered, we confirm that our server copy was deleted at delivery. A privacy deletion request does not delete the copy of the book on your device or in your iCloud storage — OWN PLACE LLC does not access or control that copy; delete it with the book's delete button in the App. See the Privacy Policy, "Your Choices and How to Delete Data," and the Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy.
Generated content. Writing-mode output is intended as fictional entertainment and may be inaccurate or fabricated. Server-based narration reproduces the text you submit and may be fiction or non-fiction. Please review generated content and do not rely on it for facts or as professional advice. See the Terms of Use.
Importing Audiobooks
From Files: Library → Import → choose files or a ZIP archive from the Files app (iCloud Drive, Dropbox, Google Drive, or local storage). Supported formats: MP3, M4A, M4B, AAC, FLAC; other formats are converted on the device.
Wi-Fi Upload (computer-to-phone):
- Connect your iPhone and computer to the same Wi-Fi network.
- In the App, open Wi-Fi Upload — the App will display a local address (e.g., http://192.168.x.x:8080/…) that includes a one-time session token.
- Open that address in your computer's browser and upload your files.
- Turn the server off when you are done.
⚠️ Safety: The Wi-Fi Upload transfer uses plain HTTP on your local network. Use it only on a trusted private network — never on public or shared Wi-Fi — keep the displayed address private, and turn the server off immediately after transferring files.
Free Catalogs
The built-in catalogs show audiobooks and texts identified by LibriVox, the Internet Archive, and Project Gutenberg as public-domain or otherwise lawfully available, and are used subject to those providers' terms. Availability of any particular book and the accuracy of its metadata depend on those services.
Privacy Choices
- Covers: Settings → Covers → "Find covers online" (on by default) sends the title and author of books without a cover to Apple's iTunes Search API. Turn it off if you prefer.
- Usage counters (no identifiers): asked once on first launch, off by default; change your answer in Settings → Privacy. Not offered in the EEA or UK.
- AI Studio permissions: Settings → Privacy shows the Terms version you accepted, lets you withdraw permission to send writing-mode content to our AI providers (new writing-mode orders stop until you grant permission again; server narration remains available with its own upload confirmation), and links to the Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy.
Your Files and Backups
The player does not upload your library automatically. Text you explicitly submit for AI Studio narration, and content you choose to include in a report or support request, are exceptions described in this Policy. Your audiobooks, bookmarks, history, and statistics are stored only on your device (and in your own iCloud/device backups, where applicable). We keep no copies of your imported files and cannot restore deleted local content. Deleting the App may delete your imported books and data — keep your own backups of original files. AI Studio books are saved on your device and, if iCloud is available and the save succeeds, in your private iCloud storage; we delete our server copy after delivery is confirmed and cannot send you the book again. Use Export to Files to keep your own copy.
Copyright Complaints
If you are a rights holder and believe content accessible through the App or produced by the service infringes your rights, see the copyright-complaints section of the Terms of Use, and write to contact@ownplace.net.
